Boxed Treasures

I bid on a small lot of yarn, as it had a few colors I needed for a holiday project. I had a couple of challengers but in the end I won it for a little under my maximum bid. It arrived last month beautifully packaged in a very nice floral storage box.

It came with an unfinished knitting project, ten expensive skeins of yarn in mint condition, some wool roving, very nice scissors, a collection of jumbo knitting needles, patterns and even some buttons.

Everything is in excellent condition with no smell; the roving is absolutely gorgeous (I've always wanted to try working with that, and now here's my chance.) The Sugar N' Cream cotton yarn skeins are worth $3.00 each, and the Buttercream Alpaca skeins are $11.00 each; just those ten skeins of yarn are worth over $70.00. That's why I'm comfortable with pricing this lot for resale at $100.00. I paid $13.54 for everything. Savings: $86.46.

Make It Yourself

As we head into December, here are ten ideas for easy handmade gifts: Cookie Exchange: If you live close to your friends invite them over for a cookie exchange. Best Thrifts of the Year, Part Two

Today I'm looking back at my best thrifts of the year to date in fabric. #4 is this collection of quilt kits, as it's the one that was the biggest surprise and also made me very happy, as I'd missed out on a similar lot that ended up going for a lot more at auction. #3 is this box of scrap fabric which I bought for $3.99 last month. I didn't post about it on the blog, as I just got around to sorting and measuring it. All together it's 54.35 yards, which works out to seven cents a yard. #2 is the lot with which I won my thrifting challenge bet. It was in brand new condition and will be making some local quilters very happy at this year's guild show. #1 is of course the enormous 103+ yards lot I bought for $15.00, which is still the largest and best thrifted fabric haul I've made to date.
