Testing Testing

Once in a while I check my typing speed at one of the free online test sites (of which there are plenty out there.) Presently the fastest I can type with no errors is 65 words per minute, or about 5 keystrokes per second. I did warm up first before I took the test, but I've always fallen somewhere between 55 and 65 wpm. When I work I also type about that fast unless I'm editing.

I learned to type on an old manual typewriter my mother gave me to play with when I was very young. I don't exactly touch-type; I have to glance at my hands every now and then. I think learning on a typewriter is why I'm so heavy-handed when I type, and why I always wear out keyboards faster than most people. Still, typing always relaxes me, especially when I need to work off some anger or anxiety, which is probably why I like it so much.
