Jolted

Last night (October 11th) I had a very interesting dream. I was in a place like an iphone store with dozens of young people sitting around long tables and talking. The atmosphere had a young, college-age feel to it (even though I never went to college, I have visited them), and everyone was dressed nicely and behaving themselves.

At the far end was a Starbucks type coffee shop, where I went I make myself some coffee (I'm not sure but I guess I worked there.) While doing so I came up with an ingenious way to make coffee into delicious edible cubes which had the consistency of cold butter. I began mixing up my coffee to see if I could create them, and ended up with a cup of the cubed coffee. I decided a fine brand name for them would be "Jolts."

I took my coffee with me as I went to talk to two of the young people, a boy and girl in their twenties, and we discussed the differences in the intelligence of our generations. I pointed out how much more clever and tech-savvy the young people are, but they thought my generation was much more capable and better at solving problems.

As I walked back to the coffee shop a young man hailed me, and asked if he could talk to me for a few minutes. He also said a professor I know told him to say hello to me. We ended up talking about my Jolts product and how my method of creating it could be shared with the world.

It was a very pleasant dream, sort of the utopian world where everyone is kind to and interested in each other (versus hating and screaming at each other.) I'd like to go and live at that coffee shop. :)

Stuff

After finding this Caron one pound skein of lovely peach yarn in my thrifted lot I raided my stash for two cakes of Mandala in Pegasus, which matches it perfectly. For practice and hand therapy I'm going to make another Worth Street Afghan with this free pattern , but this time I'll use the yarn that was recommended for it plus the one pound skein. I'm not quite ready to do the vintage/recycled linen quilt I had planned (still a bit too nervous about the idea), so I'm going to use some color therapy and make a quilt from these thrifted green fat quarters. I considered doing another Yellow Brick road patchwork pattern, but I might go with a split rail fence like this one.

Better than Fried

I cut some chives from the kitchen garden to make garlic-chive baked fries for dinner. This is a great side dish for veggie burgers. Click here for the recipe from Taste of Home.com.

The Mercantile

If you don't mind walking 33K square feet in retail space, The Mercantile may be the vintage/arts store you'd enjoy visiting if you're ever in Orlando. I certainly did. Because it was busy I didn't take any photos in the store, but it's absolutely amazing and chock full of antiques and artisan creations, most of which were pretty reasonably priced. For $21.00 I invested in a picture of sailboats for the guest bathroom I'm redoing, and a fairy mystery jar of cool stuff. The jaw was hand-painted and decorated, and utterly charming. I think I wanted the jar more than the contents. As you can see the contents were both generous and pretty cool, too. I finally have some vintage gloves to use for my art quilter bingo challenge!
