Seven for Under Seven

How much will three t-shirts, a tablecloth, two napkins and a container of paperclips cost you? If you're a smart shopper who is willing to thrift, not much.

Thrift stores regularly have sales on clothes; I got these three -shirts for 50 % off, which made them $2.37 total, or .79 each. New t-shirts run anywhere from $15.00 to $25.00 retail.

A pack of paperclips runs about $6.99 retail on average. I got these for .25.

Cloth napkins retail for about $2.50 each new; these two cost .75 total.

The plaid fabric under everything is actually a tablecloth that new would retail for $20.00. I paid $3.00 for it.

Here's my receipt showing the prices and the discount. I paid less than seven dollars for these seven items, and I defy anyone to beat that price for the same quality goods by paying retail for similar items. Even if you shopped exclusively at a dollar store, it would cost you $8.75 (and you wouldn't find t-shirts there, or the other items with the same level of quality.)

Thrift, people, please. It's good for your wallet as well as the planet.

Fasten Your Seatbelt

Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds is an epic, dazzling film that hurls you into the Korean version of the afterlife while showcasing some of the most impressive special effects I've ever seen in any movie. The story begins with the death of firefighter Kim Ja-Hong (Cha Tae-hyun) who jumps out of a burning building with a child in his arms. The kid lives, but he dies at the scene. Glorious. Kinda

Writing up my thoughts on the Chinese drama You are my Glory is going to be one of those head-scratchers; I liked it, it got annoying, I liked it anyway, it got more annoying. In the end I was left feeling like most of the last third of the series was smacking me on the nose for being a romantic and wishing, not for the first time, I was a screenwriter who could get hired to fix this script. Anyway, okay. The premise for this series is actually pretty good: poor but brilliant aerospace engineer Yu Tu (played by the fabulously handsome Yang Yang) crosses paths with fabulously wealth but not-too-bright actress Qiao Jingjing (portrayed by the genuinely pretty Dilraba Dilmurat) who was his high school classmate. He's looking for a new job that pays better; she's in hot water due to an inappropriate product endorsement snafu, and they end up spending a lot of time together.
