Velvet Trick

I love burnout velvet. When I began including little patches of it in my crazy quilt work I'd quilt around the velvet bits with thread to emphasize them. Then on a whim I tried doing a scatter stitch in the negative spaces.

It's a little tedious to do, especially when I do very small scatter stitches, but the results are worth it.

Using holographic thread makes for a lovely jewelled effect.

Needless to say, those patches never work loose from the foundation fabric. :)
