Every six months or so I have to clean out my thread catcher. I keep this at hand whenever I'm sewing or quilting and deposit my snipped threads and bits of fabric too small to recycle in it.
Once the catcher becomes packed I empty it into a little bag that I keep in my scrap bin. Sometimes it's really pretty, too, like a nest made by some exotic bird.
Anyway, I realized tonight that what comes out of the catcher is made up of multiple layers from my projects, like geological strata. I can even tell what I was working on. Now if I could just figure out how to recycle all these little bits of thread . . . .
