Improv

After making the yellow-only project I wanted to do another small art quilt project, but this time I didn't plan anything. I decided to go completely improv, using hand-dyed vintage fabrics, various leftover embroidery thread and whatever else appealed to me at the moment.

For the foundation fabric I used one side of a flour sack that came with one of my thrifted fabric lots. It's like sewing on fine linen.

Everything is stitched into place, so now I'll start embroidering and embellishing.

The two swatches on either side with buttons and embroidery came from the dexter who dyed my art fabric bundles. They're so charming I can't cut them up so I save them, and this is the perfect project to preserve her handwork. Stay tuned to see my progress.
