Practice Becomes Project

I often use materials I don't want for anything else to practice stitching or to do a trial run before I work on a project. I chose these skeins of thrifted yarn to practice the moss stitch I use for my daily mood calendar blanket, and also to use up yarns which are chenille and/or bulky, which I generally don't use in my regular projects. I thought they'd go together well, as they're shades of pink, red and green that I associate with roses.

Working on the practice piece showed me than chenille crochet doesn't look as polished as bulky acrylic in moss stitch, so that was good to know. I also liked these colors more as I worked them together.

That was when the practice piece decided to become a project on its own, as they often do. :)

I ended up using eight skeins of yarn in different weights and fibers to make a wrap for Valentine's Day. Here's the practice piece/project the night I finished it (before thread end weaving and blocking.) Came out interesting, and I've now mastered moss stitch, plus I have a nice wrap to keep me warm for the rest of winter.
