Bear with Me

I'm going to try to make some projects with just one skein of yarn, as I don't have many multiple of color in my stash, and it'll be fun to try new patterns that won't take me two weeks to make. I am particularly interested in making patterns using blanket yarn like this one, as currently I don't have any use for it.

I just did a search for free printable patterns for Bernat baby blanket yarn, and found this one on Ravelry. Upfront warning: it's written in crochet shorthand, so unless you're accustomed to reading that it may get confusing.

It took a couple of hours to make the bear, which was simple enough, and used a little over half a skein, as it takes slightly more than the 100 grams as specified in the pattern.

Problems: not many. There were no instructions or template for embroidering the eyes and muzzle so I winged that, and it's not the best (it's the first time I've tried embroidery for eyes. I also should have used worsted yarn as per the pattern; I used plush chenille.) While I was making it I was distracted by my guy a few times so I think I messed up the arms, and that's on me. It's okay for a first try, but I might make the pattern again to see if I can get better results.

Wishing

I submitted book one of my NA series for professional review and consideration, and in return I was praised for the work and provided with excellent feedback. Now I have some changes to contemplate, and decisions to make about the future. I have a couple of different directions to take, which makes the deciding part a challenge. Downtown Discovery

My guy and I are taking time each week to walk around the downtown areas of places we've never had time before to visit, which is how I came across a lovely fiber art supplies shop wth amazing handspun art yarns and hand-dyed embroidery threads from local artists. Fine silk embroidery thread is literally impossible to find in my part of the country, but not anymore. I also loved the amazing selection of hand-dyed flosses. I even found some tiny seed beads for my current project, and a gift for a quilter friend. While I try to thrift as much as I can for my art quilting and embroidery these days, I love the chance to support our my local weavers and dexters.
