Moonfall may be one of the most expensive independently produced films of all time, but it's also one of the most comical (without meaning to be funny.) Evidently no one even thought about consulting a scientist about the complete disregard for the laws of physics so as to buy into a semi-popular conspiracy theory (as in the moon is hollow because it's an artificial construct/ark built by our distant and presently extinct ancestors.)
The premise: a conspiracy theorist, a disgraced astronaut and the director of NASA (a black woman, also highly unlikely) must race against almost no time after the moon's orbit changes to stop it from crashing into earth and obliterating the planet. The only modern spacecraft available goes up for a first try and is destroyed, of course, so it's time to haul out the space shuttle Endeavor from a museum and launch it when the moon descends to within brushing distance of the earth. . . .
Yep, it's that imbecilic. As I was watching this flick plausibility went out the window in the first five minutes and then it just slid downhill from there. I suppose the special effects might make it exciting for people who don't care about science and just want to be entertained, but anyone with even a little scientific background who watches it is probably going to laugh. A lot. Available on Tubi.
