I'm playing another round of wannabuts this week, which is when I bid on thrifted items I want, but only at a minimum amount. This week's budget is $10.00, which I think is a good price for this lot of at least eleven articles of brand new clothing in my size, still in their shipping bags. At less than a dollar a piece, how can I resist the mystery?
I love books, especially old ones, so this vintage copy of Washington Irving's The Sketch Book (actually titled The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.) caught my eye at once. I don't know how old it is, but it appears to be from the late 19th or early 20th century. This short story collection contains two of his most famous works: Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, so I would love to own it -- but only for $10.00, given the condition.
I can count 25 skeins in this lot of yarn, which has lots of white (a color I always need) and some pretty blues and autumn variegated yarns. I see that the original owner also wound the skeins with a ball winder, so they're probably good quality -- and at my minimum bid, would only cost forty cents each. Because it is a nice lot I probably won't win this one, but you never know.
Stay tuned to the blog to find out how I do.
