Journal Palooza Part Two

Along with all the journals in my thrifted lot there was a photo album, an address book, a sketch book, a set of fun pens, and a to-do list with a magnet on the back. This matching pair of journals were still in their retail shrink wrap, and will be perfect as a purse/desk combo.

The photo album has laser-etched wood covers, and would be great to use for some pics I have of Yellowstone.

It amazes me what some people will just throw away. Thank goodness this person donated the album instead to Goodwill.

I think many young people are gifted journals by a well-meaning family member who wants them to have a place to write down their thoughts (I've done that; I even handed out journals to kids I didn't know.) I wish more of them would actually use the journals.

I might try to hand out some of these to young people I know. It's all about the presentation, and what you say, which can be tricky, but sometimes they appreciate it.

The pen set, which has fun motivational sayings stamped on each one.

The big sketch book in the center has beautiful paper in it. The to-do list (I burn through two or three of these every year) will also be helpful. The advertising journal made from vinyl and cork that came with a pen will likely end up being another of my desk journals.

I got two of the advertising journal in the center there, each with a beautiful pen. I would put a resale value of $5.00 per item on this lot, which would make it worth a total of $105.00. I paid $14.03 for it. Savings: $90.97.

Stuff

After finding this Caron one pound skein of lovely peach yarn in my thrifted lot I raided my stash for two cakes of Mandala in Pegasus, which matches it perfectly. For practice and hand therapy I'm going to make another Worth Street Afghan with this free pattern , but this time I'll use the yarn that was recommended for it plus the one pound skein. I'm not quite ready to do the vintage/recycled linen quilt I had planned (still a bit too nervous about the idea), so I'm going to use some color therapy and make a quilt from these thrifted green fat quarters. I considered doing another Yellow Brick road patchwork pattern, but I might go with a split rail fence like this one.

Better than Fried

I cut some chives from the kitchen garden to make garlic-chive baked fries for dinner. This is a great side dish for veggie burgers. Click here for the recipe from Taste of Home.com.

In the Kitchen Garden

Our strawberries are taking over the kitchen garden, but I don't mind. This week I want to make some strawberry banana nice cream (a vegan version of ice cream) and maybe a chocolate cake with berries and cream for the topping. There's thyme in the garden now, too, which I'll dry and jar for cooking along with the chives and the oregano. Next we'll plant cucumbers, as I use a ton of those in our salads and for snacks.
